MOOver PROPOSES A CHANGE TO THE WEST DOVER-WILMINGTON ROUTE
Release Date: January 28, 2025
WILMINGTON: Southeast Vermont Transit (aka The MOOver) is proposing to cease operations on the Route 8 West Dover-Wilmington early morning school route effective February 28, 2025. This is NOT the Route 7 Wilmington-West Dover MOOver Route that operates daily year-round.
Route 8 is a Monday-Friday run from Wilmington-West Dover-Wilmington serving Dover students going to Twin Valley Middle/High School. The same bus then goes to BAMS, BUHS, and the Career Center in Brattleboro. It runs 30 minutes per day on school days only and turns into one of the five daily buses from Wilmington to Brattleboro. The bus schedule from Wilmington to BUHS, BAMS, and the Career Center does not change, nor does the Route 7 Wilmington-West Dover year round route.
This route was started in response to Dover ending their school bus service to Brattleboro and encouraging their students to take the MOOver bus. It began service December 17, 1999. Ridership was steady until four years ago when Dover decided to run their own school bus again to Brattleboro. Ridership has tailed off dramatically in the last year.
The last day of service on this route will be Friday, February 28, 2025.
“We cannot economically justify operating for almost no ridership” said Randy Schoonmaker, MOOver CEO. “But we are very grateful for Dover’s support for 24 years.”
Public input is welcomed and can be given in any one of three ways. Riders can call 1-802-463-2474 Monday-Friday 8:00 am-4:30 pm, e-mail randys@moover.com , or go online at www.moover.com/customer-feedback/.
An opportunity to hold a public meeting can be made on or before 4:00 pm February 14, 2025 at the e-mail address above.
