MOOver MICROTRANSIT RIDES INCREASE IN WINDSOR

  WINDSOR:  Southeast Vermont Transit’s (SEVT aka the MOOver) free microtransit service in Windsor saw an increase in ridership during its first week of expanded service area operation.

The service, nicknamed the MicroMOO, provides rides Monday-Friday 6:00 am-6:00 pm within the Town of Windsor. The service area expanded to adjacent sections of Weathersfield and Hartland beginning October 2, 2023.

The week of October 2-6 saw a record 176 rides provided. Since June, the average number of daily rides was 27. Last week the average was 35. The service launched January 23, 2023.

             “We are pleased with the first week’s response” said Randy Schoonmaker, SEVT CEO. “Our goal is to provide an average of 40 rides per day, so this expanded service area is a step in the right direction.”

Microtransit is an Uber-like system of real-time hailed, dynamically routed, public transit service open to all members of the public with service provided by a van. Rides are available to the public on a reservation-basis weekdays free of charge.

            The service area expanded Route 5 from the northern Windsor town line to the Hartland Public Library, and from Windsor’s southern town line on Routes 5 & 131 to the Exit 8 Park & Ride (including Country Estates Mobile Home Park). The service is along these routes and does not include the entire towns.

            Reservations are required and are now being accepted for the new areas in advance of the October 2^nd start date. They can be made by calling the MOOver’s Office at 888-869-6287 Monday-Friday 7:45 am-5:00 pm, or via the QRyde app, or online at cp-micormoo.qryde.net/cp/ .

            Windsor is one of only five Vermont towns that has been funded for this three-year pilot program. Other towns include Barre, Manchester, Middlebury, and Morrisville.
